My Dad will go Above & Beyond for YOU!!
After a brand new garage door opener has been installed it tends to operate pretty smoothly for quite some time. But, like all regularly used appliances, wear and tear can begin to take its toll. This can be heard by the increase in noise and volume as the garage door opener is used more and more. So what can you do as a homeowner to help muffle the moans of your aging garage door opener? Well, here’s a few tips:
• Tighten it up – The thumps and bumps of a garage door opening and closing repeatedly can shake loose the little elements like bolts and nuts. The regular tightening of these pieces is one of the simplest ways to cut down on the garage door clattering. Remember righty tighty, left loosey.
• Grease it up – Like a well-used bike chain, metal garage door parts need the occasional dose of lubrication. Do not use WD-40! You’ll want a lubricant that is designed not to attract dust particles and dirt. Try something like PB Blaster Garage Door Lubricant which can be found at almost any hardware or home improvement store. It’s best to try and lubricate your garage door twice a year, or at least annually. Give all moving parts like the hinges, springs, rollers, and tracks a liberal, but not excessive spray. Be careful not to spray the belt drive openers.
• It might be time to upgrade. I know change isn’t something that homeowners always welcome with open arms. But, with the newer garage door openers there tends to be less noise because they are designed better than previous models. If you’re in the market to have your garage door upgraded or replaced, then give Above & Beyond Door Systems a call today. We’d be happy to assist you. • Silencer Kits. If you just can’t afford a complete replacement, maybe there’s another option available to you. The main reason for a lot of the commotion that a garage door makes is because garage door’s with chain drive openers and the like are essentially connecting metal on metal in order to hoist the door into position. There are commercial products available to help with sound insulation. They are often referred to as garage door opener “silencer kits” or something similar. They vary in price, design, and application.
